MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Speaker of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, H.E. Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, presided over a significant diplomatic ceremony today at the Senate headquarters, receiving a high-level international delegation led by H.E. Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP).

Accompanied by the Second Deputy Speaker, H.E. Abdullahi Ali Hersi Timacadde, Speaker Abdi Hashi engaged the delegation in strategic discussions focused on enhancing the role of legislative institutions in promoting global stability. The dialogue centered on the values of tolerance, forgiveness, and constructive dialogue as essential components of modern governance and social cohesion.

The leaders explored avenues to strengthen Somalia’s legislative capacity to advocate for peace and coexistence on the international stage. President Al-Jarwan expressed the Council’s keen interest in integrating Somalia’s unique perspective and experiences into their global parliamentary network.

The meeting culminated in the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Speaker Abdi Hashi and President Al-Jarwan. This landmark agreement officially grants the Upper House of the Somali Federal Parliament full membership in the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace.

By joining this prestigious body, which comprises representatives from over 100 nations, Somalia secures a vital platform to engage with global lawmakers, share its peacebuilding journey, and contribute to international efforts aimed at fostering tolerance and resolving conflicts through diplomacy.
