Algeris(SONNA)- The first group of Somali students benefiting from scholarships provided by the Republic of Algeria has arrived in Algeria, the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
H.E. Ali Mohamed Omar, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with 27 students—25 male and 2 female—who are part of a total of 45 Somali students currently enrolled in Algerian universities. The bilateral agreement allocates 120 scholarships in various fields, including cybersecurity.
The Minister emphasized that the scholarships are part of broader cooperation agreements signed by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, covering education, foreign affairs, livestock, and natural gas sectors.
Earlier, President Tebboune announced the provision of 500 additional scholarships for Somali students in priority areas such as agriculture and energy, supporting Somalia’s development objectives.
The initiative reflects the growing bilateral ties between Somalia and Algeria, coinciding with President Mohamud’s official visit to Algeria aimed at strengthening cooperation in education, trade, and security.
