MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, officially inaugurated a high-level consultative meeting today in Mogadishu, rallying humanitarian organizations from Islamic countries to address the severe and escalating drought crisis facing the nation.

The strategic forum was convened to align national and international efforts in the face of worsening climate conditions. Discussions were centered on a comprehensive analysis of the drought’s impact, with a specific focus on the rising number of affected families and the critical urgency of the situation.

During the in-depth sessions, SoDMA officials and international delegates evaluated the immediate logistical requirements needed to avert a humanitarian catastrophe. The primary areas of focus identified for rapid intervention included:

  • Water Trucking: Emergency water delivery to arid regions where wells have dried up.

  • Food Security: Provision of life-saving sustenance to malnourished communities.

  • Healthcare Services: Deploying medical support to prevent disease outbreaks associated with malnutrition and lack of clean water.

  • Shelter: Assisting those displaced by the environmental shock.

In his keynote address, Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle emphasized that the current crisis demands a unified and highly coordinated response. He stressed that fragmentation in aid delivery must be avoided. Instead, he called for a streamlined approach where resources are pooled and managed effectively to ensure maximum impact for the vulnerable populations on the ground.

In response to the Commissioner’s call, representatives from the various Islamic humanitarian agencies affirmed their solidarity with the Somali people. They pledged to mobilize resources immediately and committed to working in close lockstep with SoDMA to expedite the delivery of aid to the hardest-hit regions.

Concluding the meeting, Commissioner Abdulle thanked the partners for their commitments but issued a stern reminder of the timeline. He urged all participating agencies to swiftly translate their verbal pledges into tangible, on-the-ground action to mitigate the devastating effects of the drought and save lives before the situation deteriorates further.
