TANGIER, Morocco – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, took center stage today, Thursday, at the 17th edition of the MEDays International Forum, engaging in a high-level panel discussion focused on the continent’s trajectory toward political and economic autonomy.

Held in the city of Tangier, the session was titled “Emerging Africa, Winning Africa: Strengthening Sovereignty, Enhancing Governance & Securing Stability.” It brought together a distinguished group of African leaders, diplomats, and policy experts to dissect the profound political and economic transformations currently reshaping the continent.

During his address, Minister Abdisalam delivered a compelling argument on the foundational role of national sovereignty. He articulated that safeguarding the independence of African nations is not merely a political ideal but a prerequisite for establishing effective governance structures. The Minister emphasized that true economic resilience and lasting stability can only be achieved when nations possess the full agency to determine their own development paths, free from external coercion.

The discussion explored how African states can navigate the complexities of the modern geopolitical landscape. Minister Abdisalam highlighted that bolstering internal institutions and fostering a culture of accountability are essential steps in transitioning from an “Emerging Africa” to a “Winning Africa.”

The MEDays Forum, often regarded as the “Davos of the South,” is running from November 26 to 29, 2025, under the overarching theme: “Fractures and Polarization: Reinventing the Global Equation.” The event has solidified its reputation as a premier annual gathering for geostrategic and economic dialogue.

Organizers report that this year’s edition has attracted over 4,500 participants, including a roster of more than 450 high-level dignitaries. The guest list features Heads of State, government ministers, Nobel laureates, and captains of industry from across the globe.

Over the course of the four-day event, these 450 speakers are scheduled to address a wide array of critical topics, ranging from energy security and climate change to the restructuring of global alliances. Somalia’s active participation at this level highlights the Federal Government’s commitment to engaging in continental dialogue and contributing to the solutions for Africa’s collective challenges.
