Galkayo, (SONNA) — The Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, today formally registered at the National Independent Electoral Commission centre in Galkacyo, Mudug region.
Minister Fiqi, after receiving his voter registration card, encouraged the Somali people, particularly communities across the country, to actively participate in the registration process so they may elect representatives who will serve them at all levels of government.
He stated: “Today I arrived in Galkacyo, and it is an honour to formally register and receive my voter card for the district, federal member state, and national elections. Elections are a constitutional right that have been absent from the hands of the people for 56 years, and today that right has been restored to the citizens of Somalia.”
The Minister described this moment as historic and vital to state-building and the advancement of Somalia’s democratic process. He emphasised that public participation is the foundation for realising the one-person-one-vote system and ensuring genuine, representative governance that reflects the will of the people.
