London, (SONNA) — The Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdikadir Mohamed Nur Jama and his delegation participated in the 34th Session of the International Maritime Organization Assembly which kicked off today in the United Kingdom. The assembly is a key platform where Member States reaffirm their collective commitment to a safe, secure, clean, and efficient global maritime sector.
“For us, this Assembly carries particular significance as we advance major reforms to modernize Somalia’s maritime transport system, enhance operational efficiency, upgrade port infrastructure, and strengthen our maritime administration,” Minister Jama stated.
“Our priorities remain clear: stronger regulation, a modernized administration, and improved port and shipboard security to ensure a safe maritime domain that deters illicit activity and supports legitimate trade,” he added.
Somalia is turning a new chapter, from maritime challenges to becoming a responsible and constructive partner in global maritime governance. “We are committed to protecting our coastal communities, securing trade routes, and honoring our international obligations,” Minister Abdikadir said.
Somalia looks forward to a productive deliberations and deeper partnership with the IMO and all Member States as we build a safe, secure, and prosperous maritime future for all.
