Title: President Hassan Sheikh Honors Somali Teachers’ Day, Calls for Stronger Support to Educators
Mogadishu, 22 November 2025 (SONNA): President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, delivered a keynote speech at the national ceremony marking Somali Teachers’ Day, held at Mogadishu Stadium and organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education.
Reflecting on the vital role of Somali teachers, the President highlighted their historic contribution to advancing the nation’s education sector and nurturing skilled generations capable of shaping Somalia’s future. He directed the Ministry to finalize the recruitment of the remaining teachers needed to complete the government’s 10,000-teacher initiative.
“In this country, no one is more valuable than the Somali teacher and soldier. It is our duty to honour and support teachers, who are the backbone of societal development. The government has already hired 6,000 teachers, now fully deployed across educational institutions. I urge the Ministry to swiftly finalize the remaining recruitment and ensure proper training,” President Hassan said.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening teacher training, capacity-building, and motivation to guarantee that current and future generations receive quality education aligned with international standards. He reminded Somali youth that they are the leaders of both today and tomorrow.
The event was attended by Minister of Education Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, senior government officials, education agencies, teachers, and students from various schools across the capital, who presented special performances dedicated to honouring Somali educators.
In closing, President Hassan Sheikh received an honorary award from the education sector and praised Somali teachers for their resilience and dedication during the country’s most challenging years. He emphasized that his government places special priority on teacher welfare and improving the nation’s education system.
