Somali Defense Ministry Reports Major Gains in Operations Against Kharijites Terrorists

The Ministry of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia has released a detailed report outlining major achievements in the fight against the Kharijites terrorist groups, highlighting intensified military operations and strategic airstrikes that have significantly weakened the enemy.

Presenting the report before the Upper House of Parliament, Minister of Defense H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi revealed that since the beginning of the year, Somali forces, supported by international partners, have conducted 220 airstrikes, eliminating 868 Khawarij members, including 52 senior leaders.

Minister Fiqi noted that the national forces have successfully secured the entire stretch between Xarardheere and Mogadishu, marking a major milestone in restoring stability and advancing the fight against terrorism.

“The Somali government continues to work closely with international friends to ensure full support in training, strategic airstrikes, and equipment to strengthen the capacity of our national forces,” said Minister Fiqi. “We have had good cooperation with our partners to help eliminate the Kharijites, who are mostly foreigners that have invaded our country,” he added.

For his part, the Commander of the Somali National Army, Lieutenant General Odawaa Yusuf Raage, reaffirmed that reforms within the army have resumed to build a strong, professional force capable of defending the nation.

He recalled that between 2022 and 2025, major operations such as Kaaha Waaberi and Ileys were launched, significantly weakening the Kharijites network. In the Lower Shabelle region, Somali forces have killed hundreds of Kharijites fighters, including key leaders, during recent offensives.

The Defense Ministry’s report underscores Somalia’s continued determination to eradicate terrorism and strengthen national security through coordinated military action and international cooperation.
