Mogadishu, (SONNA) — Members of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia have approved the Bill on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), which was presented to the chamber by the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation.
The bill is a significant step toward protecting the rights and welfare of Somali citizens displaced by conflict, drought, insecurity, and natural disasters. It establishes a national framework for managing displacement-related issues and ensuring the provision of protection, assistance, and durable solutions for affected communities.
The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, extended his gratitude to the Honourable Senators for fulfilling their constitutional duty and approving this important legislation. He highlighted that the passage of the bill lays a strong foundation for protecting the rights and dignity of internally displaced persons, strengthening national efforts to provide assistance, and promoting sustainable solutions to prevent future displacement across Somalia.
