Mogadishu, SONNA – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, joined the celebration marking the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye, held at the Embassy of Türkiye in Mogadishu on Wednesday.

In his address, the Prime Minister described the occasion as a day of shared joy between the Somali and Turkish peoples, underscoring the strong and enduring bond between the two nations.

The diplomatic relations between Somalia and Turkey are marked by sixty years of friendship, cooperation and partnership,” said Prime Minister Hamsza.

He further noted the historic significance of Türkiye’s Republic Day, paying tribute to the courage and leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, whose vision for a modern republic continues to inspire nations around the world.

This day is a day to celebrate together with our Turkish brothers, a day to commemorate the courage and struggle of our pioneer Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who founded a modern Republic that inspired the whole world,” he added.

The Prime Minister highlighted the deep, historical and brotherly ties between Somalia and Türkiye, recalling the landmark visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Mogadishu in August 2011, during one of Somalia’s most challenging periods marked by drought and insecurity.

He emphasized that this anniversary offers an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation in trade, security, culture, education, and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Hamza expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Government and people of Türkiye for their continued support to Somalia, particularly in security, defense, infrastructure development, and social services, noting that such assistance has greatly contributed to Somalia’s path toward stability and progress.

The event in Mogadishu served as another testament to the enduring friendship and strategic partnership that continue to unite Somalia and Türkiye in mutual respect and shared aspirations for development and peace.
