MOGADISHU (SONNA) β The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mr. Ilyas Ali Hassa, has held a high-level meeting with the leadership of Haut-Katanga province in the DRC.
The Ambassador met with the Governor of the province, Mr. Martin Kazembe Shula. Haut-Katanga is a commercially significant region and is home to the largest Somali diaspora community in the DRC.
The meeting, which aimed to strengthen cooperation and address the needs of the Somali community, was also attended by other senior regional officials. These included the Speaker of the Haut-Katanga provincial parliament, Mr. Michel Kabwe Mwamba, and the Mayor of Lubumbashi, Hon. Patrick Afwimbi Mumamba.
Discussions between Ambassador Hassan and the provincial leaders focused on several key issues. The primary topic was ensuring that Somali nationals residing and conducting business in the province receive all necessary government services and administrative support.
Ambassador Hassan advocated for the interests of the Somali community, highlighting their contributions to the local economy and the importance of facilitating their access to public services.
This diplomatic engagement is part of the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to support its diaspora communities, protect their rights, and enhance bilateral relations with host nations.
