MOGADISHU (SONNA) – A high-level meeting aimed at bolstering the security of Somalia’s borders was held today at the headquarters of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA). The session was chaired by the Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, and was attended by the Chief of Police, the Director of the ICA, and other senior officials from both agencies.
The primary focus of the meeting was the presentation of an integrated strategy for national border management. Discussions centered on enhanced cooperation between security agencies stationed at the borders, the overarching vision for developing a unified border control strategy, and the critical role of the Somali Police Force in securing border areas.
Key agenda items also included strategies for combating human trafficking, organized transnational crime, and the drafting of a national policy framework for the dignified return and reintegration of citizens returning to the country.
Crucially, the meeting culminated in the establishment of a Joint Technical Committee. This committee is tasked with drafting a comprehensive National Strategy for Border Security and reviewing existing national policies related to the prevention of smuggling and migration-related crimes. This measure is intended to significantly strengthen coordination and integration among national security agencies.
