MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Ministry of Health and Human Services has concluded a two-day national coordination meeting in Mogadishu, bringing together key stakeholders to chart a new course for the country’s healthcare system. Chaired by the Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Haji Adan Abubakar, the conference centered on developing a unified national plan to streamline efforts and strengthen healthcare service delivery across the nation.

The Somalia Health Sector Coordination Meeting 2025 saw high-level participation from federal government officials, state-level health representatives, and a wide array of international partners and donors. Speakers, including the Ministry’s Director-General, Dr. Guled Abdijelil, emphasized the critical importance of a cohesive strategy to avoid duplication of resources and ensure a more efficient and effective health system for the Somali population.

During the meeting, officials highlighted several recent government achievements. Dr. Ali Haji Adan noted that the ministry has successfully provided electricity to 150 health facilities, while also establishing a system for consistent monthly financial allocations to these clinics. These efforts represent a determined move by the government to invest directly in essential healthcare infrastructure and services.

A central outcome of the conference was the unveiling of a new, ambitious five-year health plan for 2025-2029. The plan aims to build a resilient, self-reliant health system that can effectively address the country’s most pressing challenges, including maternal and infant mortality rates. The officials stated that this plan will serve as the guiding framework for all future health-related projects, ensuring that all partners work towards a common goal under a single national strategy.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of commitment from all participants, who praised the federal government for taking the lead in healthcare development. This coordinated approach is seen as a key step toward establishing a robust, sustainable health sector that can meet the long-term needs of the Somali people.
