New York, USA – President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, met with the Crown Prince of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The high-level meeting served to strengthen the long-standing and historic relations between the two countries.

The leaders discussed ways to bolster bilateral ties and cooperation, as well as the latest developments in regional and international arenas. The meeting is seen as a key step in revitalizing Somalia’s diplomatic and economic relationships with Gulf states.

During the discussion, President Mohamud emphasized Somalia’s ongoing recovery efforts and highlighted that strategic partnerships with nations like Kuwait are vital for achieving sustainable growth and stability. The Crown Prince of Kuwait praised Somalia’s resilience and reaffirmed Kuwait’s readiness to support initiatives that will further strengthen bilateral relations.

The talks also explored new opportunities for collaboration, with a focus on investment, trade, and development programs, while aligning their shared vision for peace and security in the region. The meeting was attended by other officials from the Kuwaiti delegation, including the Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA), Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The meeting builds on recent engagements between the two nations, including a previous meeting between the leaders on the sidelines of the Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha. Kuwait has long been a significant partner for Somalia, playing a crucial role in providing humanitarian aid, as well as support for infrastructure development and education projects.

This high-level engagement at the UNGA shows Somalia’s growing role on the international stage and its commitment to forging deeper partnerships to support its national development goals.
