Djibouti City, SONNA — The Federal Republic of Somalia and the Republic of Djibouti have signed a Status of Forces Agreement (SoFA), marking a significant milestone in the deepening of defense and security cooperation between the two brotherly nations. The agreement lays the legal and operational framework for the expansion of Djiboutian troops deployed in Somalia as part of broader regional stabilization efforts.

The SoFA was signed in Djibouti by Somalia’s Minister of Defense, H.E. Ahmed Moallin Fiqi, and the Acting Minister of Defense of Djibouti, H.E. Ali Hassan Bahdoon, in the presence of senior government and military officials from both countries.

In line with prior agreements and shared strategic priorities, the newly signed SoFA governs the terms of deployment, defines the responsibilities of both parties, and sets out the protocols for joint operations and coordination. The agreement is rooted in mutual respect and reflects a collaborative spirit aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of ongoing operations against security threats in Somalia.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, officials from both governments reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to regional peace and security. The agreement enables Djibouti to increase its troop contributions in Somalia, contributing to the Somali-led stabilization process and the gradual transition of security responsibilities to national institutions.

The signing took place in an atmosphere of deep brotherhood and trust, underscoring the long-standing historical, cultural, and diplomatic ties between Somalia and Djibouti. The move also demonstrates Djibouti’s consistent support for Somalia’s sovereignty, peacebuilding, and reconstruction.

This agreement is a key step in advancing the collective vision of both nations for a secure and stable Horn of Africa, and reinforces their role as strategic partners in regional security architecture.
