Beijing, SONNA – Members of both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia have begun a six-day workshop in Beijing, hosted by the Government of the People’s Republic of China. The initiative is part of deepening cooperation between Somalia and China in areas of governance, development, and capacity building.

Organized by China’s Ministry of Commerce in collaboration with the Center for International Cooperation of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the training brings together Somali legislators for knowledge exchange and institutional strengthening.

The opening ceremony featured welcoming remarks from Somali parliamentarians as well as the Minister of State for Family and Human Rights of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The remarks underscored the importance of international partnerships in enhancing legislative performance and governance standards.

Highlighting the cultural dimension of the bilateral relationship, Somalia’s Ambassador to China presented a traditional gift to Ms. Qui Ainun, Director General of the Center for International Cooperation at the NDRC. The gesture symbolized Somali heritage and appreciation for China’s support in capacity development.

This training marks a continued commitment to strengthening the ties between the two nations, particularly through institutional collaboration, mutual learning, and technical cooperation.
