Mogadishu, SONNA – The Federal Republic of Somalia has officially joined the Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA), becoming the organization’s 24th member. This development marks a significant step forward in the country’s efforts to enhance medical regulation, promote quality healthcare, and strengthen collaboration with continental health institutions.

AMCOA, a continental body of medical regulatory authorities, plays a vital role in safeguarding public interest across Africa. The organization works to promote high standards in medical education, practitioner registration, and health regulation. It also facilitates the ongoing exchange of knowledge and best practices among its member states, contributing to a more harmonized and accountable healthcare system on the continent.

Somalia’s admission into AMCOA reinforces the government’s broader commitment to health sector reform and regulatory modernization. By joining the association, Somali authorities will now have direct access to a network of medical regulatory experts, peer institutions, and platforms for sharing innovations and addressing common challenges in the sector.

The membership comes at a time when Somalia is undertaking critical reforms in healthcare governance and professional standards. Through this partnership, the country aims to strengthen medical licensing, uphold public trust in health institutions, and promote a resilient, patient-centered medical system.

Somalia’s integration into AMCOA reflects not only a regional milestone but also a renewed national focus on elevating the quality and credibility of its healthcare workforce in alignment with international norms.
