Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali Ministry of Communications and Technology proudly announced its active participation in the 48th annual meeting of Arabsat, a significant gathering held virtually on July 15, 2025. This engagement highlights Somalia’s unwavering commitment to fostering collaboration within the Arab space technology sector and advancing its own capabilities in this critical field.

During the comprehensive virtual session, key decisions were reached, shaping the future trajectory of the pan-Arab satellite communications organization. The meeting saw the formal approval of Arabsat’s annual report and budget for the year 2024, a crucial step in ensuring the continued financial health and operational efficiency of the organization. Furthermore, new members were elected to the esteemed Board of Directors, who will serve the 2025 and 2026 terms, bringing fresh perspectives and expertise to the leadership.

A central point of discussion involved informing member states about their outstanding financial obligations. This transparency aims to fortify Arabsat’s financial stability, ensuring it can consistently deliver high-quality, efficient services across the region. A notable resolution from the meeting was the unanimous decision to host the 2026 annual meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This upcoming gathering holds particular significance as it will coincide with the monumental 50th anniversary celebration of Arabsat’s establishment, promising a landmark event for the Arab space community.

Representing the Ministry with distinction was Mohamed Aboubakar, Somalia’s Director of Space and Satellites. Mr. Aboubakar underscored Somalia’s profound dedication to the growth and enhancement of Arab space technology. His participation exemplifies the Ministry’s broader strategic vision, which prioritizes the cultivation of robust Arab relations and the relentless pursuit of progress in space technology, ultimately benefiting Somalia’s national development and its role on the international stage.
