Algiers, SONNA – The Minister of State for Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing, Hon. Said Mohamed Mahmoud-Hayd, is leading Somalia’s delegation at the 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Shelter Afrique, which officially commenced in Algiers, the capital of Algeria. Somalia joins other African nations in high-level discussions on advancing affordable housing and sustainable urban development across the continent.
Representing the Federal Government of Somalia, Minister Hayd and his delegation are participating in crucial sessions of the conference, which brings together government officials, housing experts, and financial institutions to address the challenges and opportunities facing Africa’s housing sector.
Key discussions at the AGM include strategies to reduce Africa’s reliance on imported construction materials and promote the use of locally sourced alternatives. The conference also aims to strengthen intergovernmental cooperation on housing policies and foster collaboration on large-scale housing projects, with a focus on affordability, sustainability, and job creation.
The Somali delegation is engaging with international partners and investors to explore opportunities that will support Somalia’s national housing goals, in line with the country’s reconstruction and development priorities.
Shelter Afrique, a pan-African housing finance institution, plays a key role in promoting sustainable housing development and urban growth across the continent. Somalia’s participation at this year’s AGM highlights its commitment to overcoming housing challenges and leveraging continental partnerships to improve living conditions for its citizens.
