Hiiraan, (SONNA) – The Somali National Army (SNA) troops, in coordination with local community defence forces, launched a joint military operation today targeting Al-Shabaab militants in the open terrain between the villages of Mabaax and Ceelhareeri in the Hiiraan region.
According to military officials leading the offensive, the operation began early this morning and resulted in a significant defeat for the extremist group. Several Al-Shabaab operatives who had attempted to plant improvised explosive devices were shot and killed by the advancing forces.
The operation is ongoing, with government forces pressing deeper into Al-Shabaab-held areas. Commanders confirmed that the militants were overwhelmed and forced to retreat.
