Mogadishu, Somalia – Speaking at a public ceremony held in the Hodan District, the Governor of the Banadir Region, Mr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), reiterated the strong commitment of the Somali leadership to implementing a system of one-person, one-vote elections across the nation. Governor Muungaab emphasized the government’s determination to return political power directly to the hands of the Somali people.

During his address, the Regional Governor highlighted Mogadishu’s pivotal role in this transformative electoral plan. He stated that the capital city is poised to be at the forefront of the government’s initiative to establish administrations elected directly by the citizens in various regions of the country, empowering communities to govern their own interests effectively.

“Every citizen possesses the fundamental right to either cast their vote or to stand for election,” asserted Governor Muungaab, underscoring the inclusive nature of the envisioned electoral process. This statement reflects a significant push towards greater democratic participation and representation in Somali governance.

Beyond the political commitments, the Banadir Regional Governor also announced forthcoming development projects aimed at directly benefiting the local community. He detailed plans to launch initiatives focused on repairing roads within Mogadishu that have sustained damage due to recent heavy rains. These projects signify a dual focus by the regional administration on both strengthening democratic institutions and addressing the immediate needs of the city’s residents. The commitment to infrastructure repair demonstrates a tangible effort to improve the daily lives of citizens alongside the broader political reforms.
