Somali Embassy in Turkey Facilitates Evacuation of Citizens from Iran Amid Rising Tensions

Ankara, Turkey, SONNA – The Somali Embassy in Ankara has initiated efforts to assist Somali citizens residing in Iran who wish to leave the country due to the escalating tensions in the region, particularly following recent Israeli airstrikes. The embassy has issued a public notice urging Somali nationals in Iran to contact them for support in arranging their safe return home.

This move comes after an Israeli airstrike in Tehran injured a Somali medical student, Dr. Mustafa Ali Mo’alum, who has since been safely evacuated to Turkey with the embassy’s coordination. The embassy has confirmed that this evacuation is part of a broader initiative to safeguard Somali citizens in Iran, many of whom are students pursuing higher education. Embassy staff are actively identifying and assisting Somalis who feel at risk due to the ongoing conflict and are seeking to leave the country.

The Somali Embassy in Turkey, which also oversees consular affairs for Somali citizens in Iran, has provided a dedicated hotline (+90 534 593 3990) for those seeking assistance. They are urging citizens to provide updated contact information and valid travel documents to expedite the repatriation process, highlighting the Somali government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad during these turbulent times.
