Djibouti, (SONNA) — The Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Ali Haji Adam, who also serves as the Chair of the Regional Steering Committee (ReSCo), presided over the ReSCo Ministerial-Level Meeting hosted by the Republic of Djibouti. ReSCo brings together 14 member states from Eastern and Central Africa to strengthen regional cooperation on health-related issues.
The meeting focused on enhancing cross-border collaboration to address pressing health challenges, particularly the growing threats posed by infectious diseases and health emergencies. Delegates discussed ways to bolster health security, improve joint disease surveillance systems, and coordinate emergency response strategies across the region.
Key outcomes of the meeting included the establishment of new technical subcommittees dedicated to priority areas such as:
- Cross-border health security collaboration
- Harmonized disease detection and control mechanisms
- Strengthened joint response to public health emergencies
Somalia, which has led ReSCo for the past three years, was credited with making significant progress in advancing international health cooperation. The meeting also marked preparations to elect a new Chairperson who will guide the organization in the coming years.
In his remarks, Dr. Ali Haji Adam commended the commitment of ReSCo member states, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective action in tackling regional health challenges. He encouraged countries to maintain momentum in fostering health resilience and cooperation across the bloc.
