Garowe, (SONNA) – The Federal Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing of the Federal Republic of Somalia has officially completed the construction of a modern bridge in the city of Garowe, in line with the national development agenda led by H.E. President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and H.E. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.

The newly inaugurated bridge, the second of its kind in Puntland’s capital, is expected to significantly ease transportation, improve service delivery, and stimulate economic growth in the Nugaal region. The infrastructure also enhances interregional connectivity, contributing to Somalia’s broader development and integration goals.

H.E. Dr. Elmi Mahamoud Nur, the Federal Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing, hailed the bridge as one of the most substantial infrastructure projects undertaken in Somalia since the collapse of the central government. The Minister emphasized that the project reflects the government’s strong commitment to rebuilding critical economic infrastructure.

H.E. Said Abdullahi Deni, President of Puntland State, officially inaugurated the bridge in a ceremony attended by local officials and stakeholders. President Deni extended his gratitude to the World Bank and all partners involved, noting that the success of the project was the result of collaborative efforts between the Federal Government, Puntland authorities, local government, and international partners.

The initiative was implemented under the NAGAAD project, led by the Federal Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing, in partnership with the Puntland State Government, Nugaal Regional Administration, Garowe District Administration, and funded directly by the World Bank.

The Ministry and the SURPII (Somalia Urban Resilience Project Phase II) program continue to advance large-scale development projects across the country. These efforts aim to strengthen Somalia’s geographic connectivity, support socio-economic growth, and contribute to national reconstruction.

The completion of this modern bridge stands as a symbol of Somalia’s steady transition towards a new era of hope and recovery.
