ARUSHA, Tanzania – The Ministry of Information of the Federal Government of Somalia recently participated in a meeting of the East African Community (EAC), held in Arusha, Tanzania. The engagement shows a deepening commitment to regional collaboration and the shared aspirations for progress across East Africa.

The high-level gathering brought together directors and managers from media organizations across the East African bloc. Discussions centered on crucial areas of cooperation, with a particular focus on advancing education, fostering scientific collaboration, and strengthening economic ties among member states. These pillars are recognized as fundamental to achieving sustained development and collective prosperity within the region.

Mr. Abdullahi Hayir Duale, the Director-General of Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, represented the Federal Government, participating in the proceedings remotely. In his address, Mr. Duale highlighted the indispensable role of culture in fostering social cohesion. He emphasized that cultural exchange and understanding are vital instruments for promoting peace-building initiatives, facilitating reconciliation processes, and supporting broader national reconstruction efforts. His remarks resonated with the overarching theme of the conference, which sought to explore multifaceted approaches to regional integration beyond conventional economic frameworks.

Somalia’s active involvement in these discussions signals a growing resolve to play a constructive role within the EAC. By engaging with regional partners on critical issues such as media development, educational advancement, and cultural integration, Somalia aims to contribute to a more interconnected and prosperous East Africa. The outcomes of this meeting are expected to lay the groundwork for enhanced collaborative projects and initiatives that will mutually benefit all EAC member nations.
