Qatar Charity Distributes Eid al-Adha Meat to Thousands of Vulnerable Families in Mogadishu and Hargeisa

Qatar Charity has launched its annual Eid al-Adha campaign under the theme “The Greatest Days,” delivering fresh meat to thousands of impoverished and displaced families in Mogadishu and Hargeisa. The initiative is part of its seasonal aid efforts aimed at promoting social solidarity and supporting vulnerable communities during the Eid holiday.

Field teams began the process by slaughtering, preparing, and distributing the sacrificial meat across 17 districts in the Banadir region, as well as displacement camps in Hargeisa and selected government hospitals and orphan care centers.

According to Qatar Charity, the project will benefit more than 29,200 families, with distributions carefully coordinated in partnership with local authorities and neighborhood committees to ensure timely and dignified delivery to those most in need.

Acting Director of Qatar Charity’s Somalia office, Mr. Abdallah Mohamed Ali, stated that the organization is committed to carrying out the Qurbani project annually to reach displaced and impoverished communities. “This year’s project is unique due to its expanded geographic coverage and the higher number of beneficiaries,” he said.

“Our teams began distributing meat immediately after slaughter in various locations across Banadir, ensuring proper coordination with local officials to safeguard dignity and efficiency,” he added.

The campaign drew praise from local authorities. The Deputy Head of Banadir Regional Administration for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Mr. Isa Mahmoud Juri, visited several slaughter and distribution sites in Mogadishu alongside senior officials, including the Director General of Social Affairs, the Market Director, and the Mayor of Darussalam District.

“Qatar Charity’s support remains a critical humanitarian pillar for our region,” Juri remarked. “Their projects consistently reach the most deserving and impact daily lives, particularly during important seasons like Eid.”

In Tredishi IDP camp near Mogadishu, displaced resident Fatima Madi Munur expressed her gratitude: “We never expected to celebrate Eid in these conditions, but today we received our share of the meat and shared the joy as others did. We thank Qatar Charity and everyone who stood with us.”

At Medina Hospital, patient Maryam Ali Jumale shared her emotional response: “The meat reached us in our hospital beds. Though we’re far from our families, we felt remembered. It was a deeply touching gesture.”

Meat distribution will continue over the next two days, covering health facilities, IDP camps, and impoverished neighborhoods, under close administrative and health supervision to maintain quality and compliance.
