Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, today received the Ambassador of Italy to Somalia, H.E. Pier Dacco Coppi, at his office in Mogadishu. The ambassador was accompanied by senior officials from the Italian Embassy.
The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in defence and security, with particular emphasis on accelerating the training and equipping of the Somali National Armed Forces.
Minister Fiqi commended the Italian government’s longstanding and vital support in strengthening Somalia’s military capabilities, describing it as indispensable to the government’s efforts to restore national security and stability.
Both sides agreed to expand the strategic partnership between the two countries, with a focus on defence collaboration, capacity building, and the joint fight against terrorism.
Minister Fiqi expressed his deep appreciation for Italy’s consistent support and reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to deepening this strategic relationship to help ensure lasting peace and security in the region.
