Colombo, Sri Lanka – The State Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of Somalia, Mr. Asad Abdirisaq Mohamed, currently in Sri Lanka for the 4th Ministerial Conference of the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES), held significant bilateral meetings with senior Sri Lankan officials and the head of a key international organization.
During his visit, State Minister Mohamed met with the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Nireka Amarasuriya. A press conference followed their discussion. The State Minister took the opportunity to brief the Prime Minister on the current situation in Somalia and highlighted potential avenues for cooperation in the agricultural sector between the two nations.
In a separate meeting, State Minister Mohamed also met with Dr. Abdalla Ahmed Almanduus, the Director-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
The meetings took place on the sidelines of the 4th RIMES conference, which is focused on critical issues concerning agriculture, climate, and the environment. The conference serves as a platform for member states to discuss and develop strategies related to early warning systems and climate resilience, which are particularly relevant to the agricultural sector in regions vulnerable to climate variability and extreme weather events.
