Strengthening Strategic Partnership

The two leaders emphasized the longstanding brotherly ties between Somalia and Turkey, built on mutual strategic interests. They reviewed progress on existing agreements and pledged to accelerate joint initiatives in infrastructure, trade, and humanitarian assistance.

President Mohamud expressed gratitude for Turkey’s support, stating, “Turkey has been a steadfast ally in Somalia’s journey toward stability and prosperity. Our partnership in rebuilding institutions, particularly in security and development, remains vital.”

Joint Fight Against Terrorism

A key focus of the discussions was the ongoing battle against the Khawarij. Both leaders praised the collaboration between their nations in weakening terrorist networks and rebuilding the Somali National Army (SNA).

President Erdoğan reiterated Turkey’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s security sector, saying, “Turkey stands with Somalia in its fight against terrorism. We will continue providing technical, military, and humanitarian assistance to ensure lasting stability in the region.”

Expanding Cooperation

The meeting also explored opportunities for Turkish investment in Somalia’s infrastructure, education, and healthcare sectors. Turkey has been a major partner in Somalia’s reconstruction, operating its largest overseas military base in Mogadishu and overseeing critical projects such as the Mogadishu Airport and seaport.

Conclusion

The Ankara talks show the deepening alliance between Somalia and Turkey, with both nations pledging to intensify efforts against shared security threats while fostering economic and social development.

As President Mohamud concluded his official visit, the two leaders affirmed their commitment to regular high-level engagements to sustain momentum in bilateral cooperation.
