Washington, D.C. – Somalia’s State Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr. Ahmed Diiriye, participated in the 25th Global Digital Summit held at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. The annual summit brought together over 50 ministers and global leaders to discuss technological advancements and strategies for leveraging digital technologies to drive development.
During the summit, Minister Diiriye engaged in key sessions, including discussions on how governments can effectively harness technology to improve services and governance. He also participated in a session focused on the Energy-Digital Nexus, emphasizing the critical link between energy access and digital development in fostering economic growth and modernizing essential services.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Minister met with Miss Isabel, the World Bank’s Head of Digital for Eastern and Southern Africa. Their discussions centered on strengthening the partnership between Somalia’s Ministry of Communications and the World Bank, particularly in advancing the East Africa Digital Connectivity Project, of which Somalia is a key participant.
Minister Diiriye’s participation in the summit highlights Somalia’s commitment to embracing digital transformation and leveraging technology to enhance economic and social development. His engagements at the event show the government’s efforts to position Somalia as an active player in the global digital economy.
