NISA Confirms 82 Khawarij Killed in Lower Shabelle Operation

Lower Shabelle, SONNA – The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has confirmed that 82 Khawarij leaders and militia members were killed in airstrikes carried out in the Sabiid and Anoole areas of the Lower Shabelle region. The operation, which targeted hideouts of the militant group, also left 19 others seriously injured.

The airstrikes are part of an ongoing effort by Somali National Security Forces to dismantle Khawarij strongholds and disrupt their operations in the region. NISA has reiterated its commitment to eradicating the threat posed by extremist groups and restoring stability to the area.

In a statement, NISA issued a stern warning to civilians, urging them to avoid areas where Khawarij groups are known to operate. The agency emphasized that such locations remain active targets for security forces, and civilians risk being caught in the crossfire if they do not heed the warning.

The Khawarij, a term often used by Somali authorities to refer to Al-Shabaab militants, have been a persistent threat to the country’s security, carrying out attacks on both military and civilian targets. The latest operation marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to weaken the group’s influence in the region.

Local residents have expressed mixed reactions to the airstrikes, with some welcoming the offensive against the militants, while others voiced concerns over the potential for civilian casualties in such operations. NISA has assured the public that all measures are being taken to minimize collateral damage and protect innocent lives.

The Somali government, with the support of international partners, continues to intensify its campaign against extremist groups in a bid to restore peace and stability across the country. The success of this operation shows the growing capabilities of Somali security forces in combating terrorism.

As the situation develops, NISA has vowed to provide further updates and urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces in the fight against extremism.
