Mogadishu (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has expressed deep concern over the security situation in South Sudan, emphasizing the urgent need for dialogue to prevent further escalation.
“I had a phone discussion with President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan and First Vice President Riek Machar regarding the security situation in South Sudan. I conveyed Somalia’s deep concern over the recent developments and underscored the urgent need for dialogue to prevent further escalation,” President Mohamud stated.
South Sudan’s stability is integral to the peace and security of the wider region. The Somali leader stressed that sustained dialogue and cooperation remain the surest path to fostering peace and stability in South Sudan. As a region, he reaffirmed the collective commitment to supporting efforts that lead to a peaceful resolution.
Furthermore, President Mohamud assured both leaders that regional consultations are ongoing to explore viable solutions for a stable and prosperous South Sudan. He reiterated Somalia’s full solidarity with the people of South Sudan during this critical time and pledged continued engagement in efforts aimed at securing a peaceful and stable future for the nation.
