Mogadishu, SONNA – The Somali Federal Government has announced a ban on the entry of weapons into Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu. The decision was reached during a cabinet meeting following a thorough and sensitive debate on the matter.

The Minister of Information, Mr. Da’uud Aweys Jama, addressed the national media, emphasizing that the ban is part of broader efforts to tighten security measures at the airport and regulate the flow of weapons into the capital.

“The cabinet has made a decisive decision to prohibit weapons at Aden Adde International Airport. This step is crucial to controlling the movement of arms and ensuring the safety of the public and travelers using the airport,” stated Minister Jama.

The minister further explained that the ban aims to strengthen overall security at the airport, which serves as a vital hub for domestic and international travel. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding passengers, airport staff, and other stakeholders from potential threats posed by the unchecked presence of weapons.

“The primary goal of this decision is to protect the safety of the public and create a secure environment for all those who travel through Aden Adde International Airport,” Minister Jama added.

The move comes as part of the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to restore stability and reinforce security infrastructure across the country. Aden Adde International Airport, being a key gateway to the nation, has been a focal point for security enhancements to ensure it meets international standards.

The ban on weapons at the airport is expected to bolster confidence among travelers and stakeholders, further supporting Somalia’s efforts to rebuild its reputation as a safe and secure destination.
