Ankara, SONNA – Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur and Turkish National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler held high-level talks at the Turkish Ministry of Defense headquarters in Ankara on [insert date]. The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral relations, deepening counter-terrorism cooperation, and improving the training and capabilities of the Somali National Army (SNA).

The meeting showed the strong and enduring partnership between Somalia and Turkey, particularly in the areas of defense and security. Both ministers emphasized the importance of long-term collaboration to promote peace and stability in Somalia and the broader region.

Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Turkey for its unwavering support in Somalia’s fight against terrorism. He highlighted Turkey’s critical role in providing training, equipment, and strategic assistance to the Somali National Army, which has been instrumental in combating extremist groups and ensuring security across the country.

Minister Yaşar Güler reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to standing by Somalia in its efforts to achieve stability and rebuild its institutions. He noted that the partnership between the two nations extends beyond military cooperation, encompassing humanitarian aid, infrastructure development, and capacity-building initiatives.

The talks also focused on expanding joint efforts to counter terrorism, including intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and advanced training programs for Somali forces. Both sides agreed on the need for sustained collaboration to address the root causes of extremism and to strengthen Somalia’s defense capabilities.

This meeting marks another milestone in the growing strategic relationship between Somalia and Turkey. Over the years, Turkey has emerged as one of Somalia’s closest allies, playing a pivotal role in supporting the country’s recovery from decades of conflict.
