Addis Ababa, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated in the opening of the 38th African Union (AU) Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The summit brought together leaders from across the continent to discuss critical issues, including the election of a new AU Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson, as well as reforms aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the AU’s operational framework.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud played an active role in the discussions, emphasizing Somalia’s commitment to supporting leadership transitions within the AU and advocating for reforms to strengthen the organization’s capacity to address continental challenges. The Federal Government of Somalia reiterated its dedication to fostering African unity and solidarity, particularly in the areas of peace, security, and development.
The President also participated in the African Peace and Security Council meeting, where leaders reviewed the progress and challenges of peacekeeping missions across the continent. The discussions highlighted the need to enhance the AU’s ability to resolve conflicts and promote stability, with a focus on collaborative efforts to achieve sustainable peace and development.
Somalia expressed its gratitude to the African Union for its unwavering support, particularly in the areas of security and stabilization. The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening African unity and working closely with the AU to address shared challenges, advance continental progress, and ensure lasting peace and prosperity for all member states.
