Mogadishu, SONNA – The Second Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali (Dhaay), officially closed a two-day conference on climate change held in Mogadishu. The event, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, focused on developing sustainable solutions to address the impacts of climate change in Somalia and accelerating the ministry’s initiatives.

The conference brought together stakeholders to discuss the Somali Government’s strategic plans, which are centered on mitigating the effects of climate change and enhancing environmental protection efforts. Participants explored ways to strengthen the country’s response to the growing challenges posed by global climate change, including droughts, floods, and other environmental crises.

In his closing remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the critical role of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in tackling the adverse effects of climate change on Somalia. He urged the ministry to take proactive measures to address both local and global environmental challenges, highlighting the need for accelerated action to safeguard the nation’s future.

“The Ministry of Environment must play an active role in addressing the various impacts of climate change on our country and contribute to global efforts to combat this pressing issue,” said Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali.

The conference concluded with a call for increased collaboration between government agencies, international partners, and local communities to implement effective climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. The outcomes of the discussions are expected to guide the ministry’s future activities and strengthen Somalia’s resilience to climate-related challenges.
