Mogadishu, SONNA — In a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, was briefed by the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, on the worsening humanitarian situation in Somalia.

The comprehensive report presented by Commissioner Mahamuud outlined the devastating effects of the ongoing La Niña-induced drought, which has left millions of Somalis facing acute food and water shortages. The crisis has been further aggravated by the suspension of critical aid from several international relief agencies, leaving vulnerable communities in dire need of immediate assistance.

Commissioner Mahamuud emphasized the urgent need for a coordinated national and international response to address the escalating humanitarian challenges. He warned that without swift intervention, the situation could deteriorate further, potentially leading to widespread displacement and loss of life.

In response, Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi reaffirmed the Somali government’s commitment to addressing the crisis head-on. He stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would take a leading role in mobilizing international support and drawing global attention to Somalia’s plight.
