Cairo (SONNA): Somali Defense Minister Abdikadir Mohamed Nur, currently on a working visit to Cairo, met with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdul Majeed Saqr, to discuss strengthening military and security cooperation between the two nations.
The high-level meeting focused on strategies to enhance collaboration in defense matters, including joint training programs, intelligence sharing, and logistical support. A key agenda item was Egypt’s potential participation in the newly launched African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which began operations on January 1, 2025.
Both ministers emphasized the importance of mutual support in maintaining regional security and combating terrorism. They also discussed the strategic significance of fostering closer ties between Somalia and Egypt to address security challenges in the Horn of Africa.
