Mogadishu, January 9, 2025: The Federal Republic of Somalia is honored to announce its candidacy for the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) for the term 2025–2028. This represents a pivotal moment for Somalia to contribute significantly to Africa’s peace and security agenda, reflecting its transformative journey and unwavering commitment to Pan-African ideals.
With over 17 years of hosting the African Union Mission, Somalia stands as a model for African-driven solutions to African challenges, transitioning into a fully functional and resilient state. Key milestones such as debt relief, election to the United Nations Security Council (2025–2026), and accession to the East African Community (EAC) highlight Somalia’s leadership role in advancing regional and continental priorities.
Why Somalia’s Leadership Matters
- Fair Representation: Somalia has yet to serve on the AU PSC since its establishment in 2004, making this candidacy a matter of equity and inclusivity.
