Mogadishu, Somalia – December 7, 2024 – The Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has taken a significant step forward in enhancing its emergency response capabilities with the acquisition of an ambulance and a fire truck. These vital additions, generously donated by the World Bank through the Somalia Crisis Recovery Project (SCRP), were officially handed over to the agency today.

In a press briefing, Mr. Maxamuud Macalin Abdulle, the esteemed Commissioner of SoDMA, expressed his gratitude for the World Bank’s continued support. He elaborated on the importance of these vehicles in strengthening the agency’s ability to respond effectively to emergencies across the nation.

“These vehicles will play a crucial role in our operations, ensuring that we can provide timely and efficient assistance to the Somali people during times of need,” stated Mr. Abdulle. “The ambulance and fire truck represent not just tools, but a lifeline for our communities. Their arrival marks a significant enhancement in our disaster management and emergency response efforts.”

Mr. Abdulle also took the opportunity to highlight SoDMA’s ongoing initiatives and performance, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of Somali citizens. He assured the public that the new equipment will be deployed immediately to bolster the agency’s capacity to manage crises and deliver prompt services to those in distress.

The donation is part of the broader SCRP initiative, aimed at building resilience and supporting recovery efforts in Somalia. The World Bank’s contribution underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing the challenges faced by the country.
