Mogadishu(SONNA)-H.E. Amb. Yonis Yassin Hasshi, The Director of Europe and Americas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, hosted a diplomatic meeting with H.E. Mr Joachim Waern, Swedish Ambassador to Somalia at the MFA Headquarters in Mogadishu.
Discussions focused on strengthening the ties between Somalia and Sweden and addressing enhancing bilateral cooperation in security, political engagement, and Diaspora Affairs.
Ambassador Hashi expresses his gratitude to Ambassador Waern for the Swedish Government’s sustained support and for his own efforts in advancing the relationship between the two friendly nations.
Somalia’s upcoming role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council is set to begin in January 2025. Ambassador Hashi reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to prioritizing regional peace and security, particularly in the Horn of Africa, as a cornerstone of its agenda.
Ambassador Waern commended the Federal Government of Somalia for its dedication to constitutional reforms and its progress in advancing the National Consultative Council (NCC) and the “one man, one vote” electoral initiative—significant milestones in Somalia’s journey toward democratic governance.
Regarding the recent elections in Somaliland, Ambassador Hashi expressed the Somali Government’s satisfaction with both the peaceful conduct of the process and its outcome.
The meeting underscored the enduring partnership between Somalia and Sweden, driven by shared aspirations for peace, development, and prosperity.
