Mogadishu, SONNA – Minister of Information Da’ud Aweis concluded a two-day Media Strategy training aimed at preventing fake news and misreported information. About 20 journalists and officials from both public and private media organizations participated in the training, co-organized by Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu.

The workshop focused on enhancing reporters’ and media executives’ skills in combating fake news and guiding the community effectively. Minister Da’ud Aweis thanked the Turkish Government for its support and highlighted Somalia’s ongoing campaign against misinformation and conflict incitement.

“We are committed to community orientation and anti-falsification efforts. This training, a result of discussions with the Turkish Ambassador, reinforces our strategy to prevent misinformation,” said Minister Aweis, urging participants to share their new knowledge with colleagues.

Ambassador Alper Aktaş of Turkey emphasized the workshop’s goal of strengthening cooperation between Somalia and Turkey, and the vital role of journalists in Somalia’s reconstruction and development.

The Ministry continues to work on raising public awareness to combat fake news and promote peace and stability in Somalia.
