The Minister of Health and Social Care of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Dr. Ali Hajj Adam Abu Bakr, is participating in the 10th edition of the Middle East Forum on Quality and Safety in Health Care, which is taking place in Doha, Qatar, from February 24 to 26, 2024.

The forum, organized by Hamad Medical Corporation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, is a regional platform for health care professionals, policy makers, and experts to share best practices, innovations, and challenges in improving the quality and safety of health care services.

The theme of this year’s forum is “Transforming Health Care in Challenging Times: Resilience, Innovation, and Leadership”. The forum features keynote speeches, plenary sessions, workshops, poster presentations, and networking opportunities.

Somalia, which has been recovering from decades of civil war and instability, faces multiple health challenges, such as outbreaks of infectious diseases, malnutrition, maternal and child mortality, and lack of access to quality health care services. The Ministry of Health and Human Services, with the support of its partners, has been implementing various initiatives and reforms to address these challenges and improve the health outcomes of the Somali people.

Dr. Ali Hajji is also expected to discuss the opportunities and challenges of collaborating with regional and international partners in advancing the health agenda in Somalia and the Horn of Africa. He will also explore the potential of leveraging digital technologies, innovation, and data to enhance the quality and safety of health care delivery.

The forum, which is attended by more than 3,000 delegates from over 40 countries, is a valuable opportunity for Dr. Ali Hajji and his team to learn from the best practices and experiences of other countries and organizations in the region and beyond, and to foster new partnerships and networks for future cooperation.
