Kenya Airways has inaugurated a direct flight to Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, today. The flight was launched by officials from the Kenyan government and the Somali Embassy in Nairobi, led by Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, the Somali ambassador to Kenya.
The direct flight is expected to enhance the bilateral relations between Somalia and Kenya, as well as boost the trade and traffic between the two countries. It will also facilitate the movement of goods and people across the borders, and provide a convenient link for the Somali diaspora to connect with their homeland.
The launch of the direct flight coincides with Somalia’s recent accession to the East African Community (EAC), which opens new opportunities for the business communities of both countries. Nairobi will also become a transit hub for Somali citizens and travelers from around the world, contributing to the local economy and the growth of both countries.
The Somali ambassador to Kenya, Abdulle, expressed his appreciation for the initiative and called for simplifying the visa process to make travel easier and faster. He also stressed the need for strengthening the cooperation between the two parties on various issues of mutual interest.
