Mogadishu, SONNA – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended a town hall meeting organized by the Minbar Space Initiative on Wednesday where he answered questions from the public on various issues related to the Federal Government of Somalia’s achievements in 2023.

The town hall meeting, which was broadcast live on social media, covered topics such as the security situation, the economic recovery, the constitutional review, the regional cooperation, and the upcoming elections.

One of the highlights of the meeting was when the president expressed his “full confidence” in the Somali National Army (SNA) for his security, calling himself “lucky” to be the first president to be protected solely by them after the country’s “destruction” by civil war and terrorism.

“I am proud of our brave soldiers who have sacrificed their lives and limbs to defend our nation and our people. They have shown professionalism, discipline, and loyalty in the face of many challenges and threats. They deserve our respect and gratitude,” the president said.

The president also confirmed that a review will be made of the salaries of the soldiers, and that their increase is important for the government of Somalia. He said that the government is committed to improving the living conditions and welfare of the armed forces, as well as providing them with adequate training and equipment.

The president also thanked the international partners who have supported the SNA and current ATMIS and AMISOM in their efforts to combat the militant group Al-Shabaab and secure the country.
