Mogadishu, SONNA – The Chinese government today extended a $1 million lifeline to Somalia, ravaged by severe El Niño-induced floods. The vital donation, received by the Commissioner of the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Maallim Abdulle, from Chinese Ambassador Fei Shengchao, will be used to alleviate the plight of vulnerable communities suffering from the devastating effects of the climate phenomenon.
The donation, earmarked for logistical support, will primarily be used to transport food aid soon to be delivered by China to remote and hard-to-reach areas within Somalia. This crucial assistance will ensure equitable distribution of life-saving supplies to communities facing food insecurity, malnutrition, and displacement due to the prolonged drought.
