Toyota halts production at all Japanese factories after system failure

Tokyo, (SONNA) – Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday operations at all 14 of its group’s vehicle assembly plants in Japan would be halted due to a computer system failure, adding it did not know when they would restart.

The issue was under investigation, but the problem is unlikely to have been caused by a cyberattack, according to the automaker.

Operations at the Miyata plant in Fukuoka Prefecture and Daihatsu Motor Co.’s Kyoto plant, the two factories which had been unaffected in the morning, would also be suspended in the afternoon, it said.

The plants, which utilize the same system, were unable to process orders for vehicle parts from early Tuesday.

The Miyata and Kyoto plants had completed its orders prior to the failure.

Toyota shut all of its plants in the country in March last year after its domestic suppliers Kojima Industries Corp. suffered a system failure caused by a cyberattack.
