Mogadishu (SONNA) – A delegation led by the caretaker Minister of Relief and Disaster Management of the Federal Government of Somalia has today on Wednesday launched important weather monitoring equipments in Kismayo, SONNA reported.

Mr Hamza Saiid Hamza said that, the materials were important for state governments to enable agencies to be more aware of the risks involved.

The Minister said that in response to current needs, it is important to consider strengthening institutional capacity to minimize the impact of future disasters in the community.

The Minister pointed out that this effort was part of the implementation of the national Disaster Management Policy approved by the Somali Parliament in March 2017.

The move was also part of the implementation of Sandi-framework’s international commitment under Article “G” which stipulates that governments set up disaster warning centers.

“Somalia can no longer survive disasters such as droughts, floods and hurricanes (which are now rampant). The Somali government has decided to find a long- lasting solution to overcome these problems. As a Ministry we are ready to stand with our people and also to be capable of protecting the lives, animals and livelihoods on which this nation depends on. ” Said the Minister.

Meanwhile, officials from the ministry of planning of Juballand State received the delivered equipments.

An official from the ministry confirmed and said, the kits would significantly change the way alarms were used to deliver to communities in the regions and districts of Jubaland.

“We are grateful to the ministry for providing computers, screens that indicate climate change and other important devices that will make it easier for us to carry out our duties.” He said.

The Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management of the Federal Government of Somalia is planning to reach out to all regional states and Banadir Region.
