Mogadishu, Somalia – The Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mohamud Macallin Abdulle, welcomed the Head of the World Refugee Organization – UNHCR in Somalia, Mr. Charles Mballa, at SoDMA’s headquarters.
The high-level meeting centered on enhancing collaboration between SoDMA and UNHCR, with a focus on pivotal issues such as the inauguration and functioning of SoDMA’s vocational training center. The center aims to empower individuals by equipping them with essential skills for self-reliance.
A critical agenda item was the response to emergencies affecting internally displaced persons (IDPs). The two organizations discussed strategies for providing immediate shelter and emergency humanitarian aid to those in dire need. Moreover, they explored proactive measures to assist individuals in disaster-prone areas, aiming to mitigate displacement and reduce the burgeoning population in IDP camps.
Mr. Mballa commended SoDMA for its remarkable progress and swift implementation of activities despite its relatively recent establishment. The meeting concluded with a consensus to form a technical committee dedicated to advancing the development and operational frameworks of both institutions.
This partnership marks a hopeful step towards a more resilient Somalia, ready to face the challenges posed by natural disasters and support its most vulnerable populations.
