Mogadishu (SONNA)-Asphalt paving work has started on the Mogadishu-Afgoye road in the Federal Republic of Somalia, with the support of Qatar Fund for Development. This project is part of the Somalia Roads Project, which is working on the construction of two roads, which are the Mogadishu-Jawhar Road and the Mogadishu-Afgoye Road, with a length of 112 km.

The length of the Mogadishu-Afgoye road is 22 km, as this project will contribute to providing an ideal infrastructure in the fraternal Republic of Somalia by establishing highways between the capital Mogadishu and the neighboring cities (Afgoye, Balad and Jawhar).

It will also contribute mainly to moving the wheel of development in Somalia by exporting agricultural materials from the city of Jawhar through the port of Mogadishu, in addition to contributing to creating jobs for the Somali people through construction works, as the Somali cadres are a major factor in the project, as the Public Works Authority contributed to providing Technical support for the project Estad Project Management Company is participating as a project supervision consultant.

It is worth noting that the Qatar Fund for Development laid the foundation stone for the two road projects last year, during a ceremony sponsored by His Excellency the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Khalifa Al Kuwari, Director General of the Fund, in addition to a high-ranking delegation from the Fund.

The ceremony was witnessed by His Excellency Hassan bin Hamza Hashem, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia and a delegation from the Public Works Authority. The Somali Prime Minister and a number of ministers, officials and parliamentarians attended the ceremony.

This important project comes within the framework of the Qatar Fund for Development’s interest in development projects, as this project is a development project with a long-term impact, which guarantees a lot to the residents of the region in terms of stability for people’s lives, enhancing security and facilitating their lives in reaching the requirements of daily life.
